THE COLE ACADEMY

Screen-Free by Design
Real Human Connection

Cultivating Pure Connection, Learning, and Safety at The ColeAcademy

At The Cole Academy, we know early childhood is a once-in-a-lifetime period of important brain growth and active discovery for our keiki. From 6 weeks to 6 years of age, our classrooms and curriculum are proudly and intentionally screen-free.

While we completely understand and respect that children have exposure to technology at home, our program ensures that your child’s school day is dedicated entirely to rich, hands-on experiences, real-world relationships, and active play.

Here is why our intentional choices create the best possible foundation for your child:

100% Screen-Free Classrooms: Grounded in Early Childhood Research

Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) consistently highlights that infants and young children learn best through direct human interaction, sensory play, and physical movement.

  • Active Brain Building: Screen time in early childhood can overstimulate developing nervous systems and displace vital physical and social opportunities.
  • Hands-On Discovery: In our environments, keiki build spatial reasoning, executive function, and fine motor skills by touching, stacking, painting, moving, and exploring real materials with their hands.
  • Relational Learning: Language development and emotional resilience thrive through face-to-face eye contact, direct conversation, and responsive human connections.
Internal Classroom Cameras:

Prioritizing Safety & Secure Privacy

We maintain closed-circuit security cameras in our classroom learning spaces solely for internal safety monitoring and
leadership oversight.

  • Offline & Unhackable: Our camera feeds remain strictly offline and are never streamed over the internet or accessible via mobile apps. This eliminates cybersecurity risks, external streaming vulnerabilities, and unauthorized access.

  • Uncompromising Privacy: Every child deserves complete privacy during their developmental journeys, including messy moments, diapering, or emotional growth.

  • Internal Purpose: Footage is accessed exclusively by our internal leadership team when needed for quality assurance, teacher coaching, and security. It is kept private and not stored long-term, ensuring your child’s physical and digital safety is protected at every turn.

Presence Over Posts:

Why Our Teachers Are Fully Present

Some early childhood programs utilize tablets or smartphones in the classroom so teachers can type real-time updates and post daily photos. We intentionally choose a different path.

  • Hands-Free Caregiving:
When a teacher holds a device, their gaze and hands are pulled away from the children. Our teachers keep their hands, eyes, and minds fully engaged with your keiki.

  • No Classroom Screen Distractions:
Keeping phones and tablets out of our learning spaces ensures children are
not surrounded by screen glow or distracted by adult device use.

  • Data Security for Families:
We protect your child’s image and daily routine from cloud-based app storage and third-party data platforms.

At The Cole Academy, we swap digital notifications for real human connection. You can always count on meaningful, personalized face-to-face check-ins with our team at pickup and drop-off, knowing that throughout the day, your child received 100% of our undivided care and attention.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does The Cole Academy offer screen-free classrooms?
Young children learn through hands-on discovery, active play, and meaningful relationships. Our classrooms and curriculum are intentionally screen-free for keiki ages 6 weeks to 6 years, making room for activities like building, painting, movement, and face-to-face conversation. We respect each family’s choices about technology at home while keeping the school day focused on exploring and connecting.

How will I receive updates about my child’s day?
Our team provides personalized, face-to-face check-ins at pickup and drop-off. Rather than posting real-time photos and updates through classroom devices, teachers focus on caring for and engaging with your child. These conversations give families an opportunity to hear about their child’s experiences and ask questions.

Can parents watch classroom camera feeds online?
No. Our classroom security cameras are used exclusively for internal safety monitoring and leadership oversight. Camera feeds remain offline and are not available through livestreams or mobile apps. Access is limited to our internal leadership team for purposes such as safety, quality assurance, and teacher coaching, helping protect children’s privacy.
